False advertisement is type of dupe by giving wrong information. It is a wrong way to attract people to buy certain products or services. People fall prey to these advertisements and lose their time and money. People get trapped because an advertisement has a psychological impact on the mind. There are a few laws against false advertising in USA. But the business goes unabated. The internet is full of such advertisements.
Here are some examples of false advertisements:
Look at this blatant falsehood, ‘come to Jenny’s Restaurant with family and have completely free dinner.’ One fall prey to this falsehood and goes to the restaurant only to find that ad is true but there are certain conditions applied.
Pantene Pro-V aired it add claiming it would ‘supplement amino acid to make hair ten time stronger’. The advertisement is a blatant lie. Many complaints were lodged against it and ultimately the ad was banned.
Dell Inc. once resorted to false advertisement promising ‘no interest’ and ‘no payment’ to have customers condemned with higher rates. A New York judge ruled that Dell Inc. resorted to false advertisement.
Certain cosmetic companies describe their products in advertisement having vitamins and herbals. But the truth is that they contain only petroleum products. One of the examples is a cream claiming that it will make the skin fair. A beautiful model is shown using this cream. The model is naturally fair and the cream she is advertising for has nothing to do with her fairness. Women with no fair skin fall prey to the advertisement easily and gets deceived.
Fast food companies show their products like burger or pizza mouthwatering while the reality may be different.
Sometimes advertisement like ‘earn one million sitting at home’, or ‘congratulations you have won the prize of one million dollars, for claim click here’ are flashed on the net. Some people get easily trapped to these and lose their money and time. Once a man assumed the advertisement of winning a thousand dollar prize to be true and threw a party which cost him hundreds of dollars and finally he found that it was a hoax.
